Whole Wheat Bread

In the kitchen we all have a signature item. That one thing we make that everyone loves. The one thing that speaks above all else. It stands out. And even if nobody can identify that item at this point in time, it is still there. Find it. It is something you make well. Ok, I see all my noncooking friends reading this and shaking their head. They cannot find one such thing for the kitchen is not their place! To you dear friend I say, you still have a signature item. It may not be food it may not be knitting. We will leave that to great great grandma. But there is something you have to give to the world.

My signature item in the kitchen is my whole wheat homemade bread. As of September 2013 I no longer get to enjoy it. My stomach has issues and I have yet to find a stomach therapist to handle the case. All I know is that my stomach is calm and quiet when I do not feed it wheat or white flour. I do so wish it would get over its issue so that I can go back to eating this wonderful tasteful even healthy bread. For now I have to realize that everyone has some issues even our organs and just be ok with that.

I buy these wheat kernel’s and place them in my grinder. Magic happens and in a few minutes I have some fresh whole wheat flour

I mix together yeast, water, oil, honey, vinegar, lecithin, and wheat germ and let knead for 10 minutes.

I pull it out and form into 6 loaves. And then the rising happens.

Into the oven it goes at 325 for about 30 minutes. And then out of the oven it comes looking like this…

Ohh this bread makes the best french toast and grilled cheese! It is a bit heavy for a lunch meat sandwich.

  • 3 T Yeast
  • 5 1/4 Warm Water
  • 3/4 cup Oil
  • 1/2 cup Honey
  • 1/4 cup Vinegar
  • 1 T Lecithin
  • 1 T Wheat Germ
  • 10 cups Golden Wheat Kernels
